Brief History

In 1948, founder, Kay Parish, invested in a floundering, one room doll repair shop in Detroit, Michigan. With her purchase, Kay received hundreds of boxes of authentic late 19th Century and early 20th century doll parts. These parts, combined with professional doll restoration techniques have made it possible to tackle serious restorations of most older forms of dolls. Doll restoration continues to be an important part of this business. In 1973, her son, Jack Parish added  "& Toy Soldier Shop" to the name, as he proceeded to establish a world-class toy store to complement the vibrant doll restoration business. His children and grandchildren now actively run the business. Each has brought his or her individual ideas and skill-sets into the business. Over the years the store has more than tripled in size and has added more meaning to the phrase "this isn't just a doll store!"  We offer classic toys for all ages, construction toys, puzzles, games, puppets, dollhouses & miniatures, arts & crafts, model horses and wooden trains....just to name a few.  In 2004, we added our Parent Teacher Resource Center, making us a "one-stop shop" for parents and teachers throughout Southeast Michigan. Please visit our retail store at www.dollhospital.com for more information.

On-line shopping from The Doll Hospital

Really Great Toys is a division of the Doll Hospital & Toy Soldier Shop. Our first attempt at e-commerce began in 1999 with the creation of Toy-Shoppe.com.  That site was taken down in 2004 for a complete overhaul.  The site you see today, now with a new name, ReallyGreatToys.com , was built and designed from the ground up by 3rd Generation family members Scott Gildner and his wife Sara. Scott's immense programming and web design skills complimented by Sara's knowledge of the specialty toy industry have combined to create a high tech web site for our little old-fashioned business! We believe that the same business practices, that have distinguished our parent company from a host of competitors for a half century, will be equally appealing to a national audience through the medium of the internet.

Fifty Year Track Record

The Doll Hospital, over the years has developed some pretty solid beliefs, about what constitutes a good toy for a kid. We believe it is desirable for children, to stay young and fanciful for as long as possible - a difficult assignment in this complex world of ours. Accordingly, we provide playthings that encourage make-believe and make it fun to learn about life. We offer activities and hobbies that encourage the development of useful skill-sets involving dexterity and artistic expression. Many of these activities involve more than one family member and engender a closeness that somehow seems to be missing today.

By acting on our convictions, through the products and services we provide, we attempt to distinguish ourselves from the chain stores, the toy catalogs and the mainstream, mass market for toys. We believe we offer a clear shopping alternative and hope you find it beneficial for your family.
